Opportunities

The people you meet as you participate in the activities listed here will be pleased to have the chance to talk with you, and will be the source of further contacts and friends here at St. Ambrose.  Please know that all volunteers are trained and given the support they need to be successful in their ministry. We hope you will join us.  If you are interested in participating in any of these ministries, please contact the parish office for more information.

Participate in Worship or Groups Around the Church

Acolytes serve on teams which assist in the worship services.  Youth are eligible to become acolytes at about 3rd grade.  They lead the processions and attend the holy table during service.

The Altar Guild is a lay group commissioned by the Rector to be responsible for the preparation of the church for all services: worship, baptisms and memorials, as well as provision and care of the sanctuary, altar supplies, flowers and vestments.  They meet on the 2nd Tuesday of every month.

Daughters of the King is an Order for Episcopal women who undertake a rule of life which requires a spiritual discipline of daily prayer, service and witnessing God’s grace.

Greeters welcome newcomers and parishioners to church on Sunday morning.

3rd Wednesday Potluck Dinners are hosted by various organizations in the parish.  During the summer we grill out on the patio.  Please bring a dish to share.  No reservation is ever necessary.

The Parish-wide Picnic in June features a big cookout, time for fellowship and softball.  All are always welcome, this is a great way to meet people.

The Sexton’s Guild is responsible for the upkeep of all buildings and landscaping, and is always welcoming volunteers

Lay Eucharistic Ministers and Visitors assist in the administration of Holy Communion.  All serve during services and some take the Eucharist to parishioners who are unable to be present at worship.  Lectors read the Bible lessons during worship.  This ministry requires clergy approval and Diocesan training.

10:30 a.m. Prayers of the People are written by members of the congregation each week.  Individuals are responsible for writing prayers appropriate to the lessons for that day; training is provided.

Ushers have a variety of responsibilities including greeting people and collecting the offering.  They also record the attendance and count the offering with a member of the vestry member after the service.

Vergers assist each Sunday with ensuring that our services come together, as well as to support the other Sunday Morning volunteers.
